(Jennerstown, PA) Persistent rain showers forced the cancellation of 5-Division Racing on Saturday night, May 11, 2019, delaying the start of the new season of Jennerstown Speedway Complex action by one week. “Opening Day 2019” will now occur on Saturday, May 18, in conjunction with the annual “Armed Forces Appreciation Night,” which kicks off at 6pm. The event will be the first competitive event for Jennerstown race teams, after three practice sessions were conducted in preparation for the start of a new year of high-speed thrills.
The forecast changed quickly, as Jennerstown Speedway officials carefully watched the radar maps evolve into deplorable conditions. An originally predicted four to five hour “window” of dry weather between 4:30pm and 9:30pm, degenerated into non-stop drizzle, and eventually heavy showers. The rain never stopped, and at approximately 6pm - the scheduled start time – the decision was made to cancel the races, amidst drenching rains that failed to relent as expected.
Saturday, May 18, the spectator gates will open at 4pm, and all retired and active military service members will be welcomed with FREE ADMISSION, (with proper I.D.) as a “thank you” to all who have served our great nation. As we celebrate “Armed Forces Night,” all five divisions of stock cars will compete in round one, for 2019’s “Opening Day.” At 6pm, the Martella's Pharmacy Late Model division, the Stoystown Auto Modified division, the Tunstall Auto & Truck Service Street Stock division, the Famers Union Co-op Charger division, and the Somerset Trust Company Fast ‘N Furious 4-Cylinder division will be at full speed, in a complete program of racing action.
